What is Bruschetta?

Bruschetta is an Italian appetizer consisting of grilled bread topped with a variety of ingredients. The term "bruschetta" is derived from the Italian word "bruscare," which means "to roast over coals." Traditionally, bruschetta is made using rustic Italian bread, which is sliced, toasted, and then topped with fresh ingredients. The most common topping is a mixture of chopped tomatoes, basil, garlic, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar.

History of Bruschetta

The origins of bruschetta date back to the 15th century in Central Italy, specifically the region of Lazio. Originally served as a way to preserve bread, bruschetta was a practical solution for using stale bread. It quickly became a staple in Italian cuisine, with variations arising in different regions. Over time, bruschetta evolved from a simple peasant dish to a beloved appetizer enjoyed worldwide.

How to Pronounce Bruschetta

The correct bruschetta pronunciation is "broo-skeh-tah," with an emphasis on the second syllable. The "ch" in bruschetta is pronounced as a hard "k" sound, distinguishing it from the common mispronunciation "broo-shet-ah." Here’s a breakdown of the pronunciation:
