What Ingredients Do You Need for Fried Chicken Recipe Without Buttermilk?

To make this delectable fried chicken, you’ll need the following ingredients:

• 4 large chicken pieces (legs, thighs, or breasts)
• 1 cup all-purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon black pepper
• 1 teaspoon garlic powder
• 1 teaspoon paprika
• 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
• 1 cup milk (or a dairy-free alternative)
• Vegetable oil (for frying)

How Do You Prepare the Chicken for Frying?

Preparation is key when it comes to frying chicken. Here’s how you can get your chicken ready:

1. Start by rinsing your chicken pieces under cold water and patting them dry with paper towels.
2. In a bowl, combine the milk with salt and any additional seasonings you prefer. Submerge the chicken pieces in the milk mixture for about 30 minutes to 1 hour. This helps to tenderize the meat.
3. In a separate bowl, mix the flour with the spices (black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper).

What’s the Best Way to Fry Chicken Without Buttermilk?

Frying chicken can seem daunting, but with the right technique, you can achieve that perfect crispy crust. Here’s how:

1. Heat a large skillet or deep frying pan over medium-high heat and add enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan.
2. Once the oil is hot, take each piece of chicken from the milk bath and dredge it in the seasoned flour mixture, ensuring it's fully coated.
3. Carefully place the coated chicken pieces into the hot oil, being sure not to overcrowd the pan.
4. Fry each side for about 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).

How Can You Ensure Your Fried Chicken Stays Crispy?

To maintain the crispiness of your fried chicken, consider these tips:

• Let the chicken rest on a wire rack after frying. This prevents steam from making the coating soggy.
• Use a deep-frying thermometer to maintain the oil temperature, which should be around 350°F (175°C).
• Fry in small batches to avoid lowering the oil temperature, which can lead to greasy chicken.
