What is Duck Duck Goose?

Duck Duck Goose is a traditional children's game that involves players sitting in a circle while one player walks around the outside, tapping others on the head and calling them "duck" until they choose one person to be the "goose." The goose then chases the tapper around the circle, attempting to tag them before they can sit in the empty spot left behind. This fast-paced and exciting game is ideal for group settings and requires minimal equipment.

Rules of the Game

The rules of Duck Duck Goose are straightforward, making it easy for children of all ages to understand and enjoy. Here’s how to play:

• Gather a group of players (ideally 5 or more).
• Players sit in a circle facing inward.
• One player (the tapper) walks around the outside of the circle, gently tapping each player on the head while saying "duck."
• When the tapper chooses someone to be the "goose," they tap that player on the head and shout "goose."
• The goose must then get up and chase the tapper around the circle.
• If the tapper makes it back to the empty spot and sits down without being tagged, the goose becomes the new tapper.
• If the goose tags the tapper before they reach the empty spot, the tapper must remain the tapper for another round.

Variations of Duck Duck Goose

Duck Duck Goose has many fun variations that can keep the game fresh and exciting. Here are a few popular ones:

1. Duck Duck Splash

In this variation, players can use a small amount of water or sponge to add an element of surprise. The tapper can throw water at the goose while running, adding a fun twist to the game.

2. Duck Duck Freeze

In Duck Duck Freeze, when a player is tapped as the goose, they must freeze in place. The other players can try to rescue them by crawling under their legs while the tapper tries to tag them.

3. Reverse Duck Duck Goose

In this version, the roles are reversed. Instead of chasing the tapper, the goose must try to avoid being touched by the tapper while running around the circle.

4. Duck Duck Color

Instead of saying "duck," the tapper can call out colors. The chosen player must then find something of that color in the environment before they can chase the tapper.
