Preparing Your Salmon

Proper preparation is key to successfully removing the skin from salmon. Follow these steps:

• Ensure your salmon is properly thawed if it was previously frozen.
• Rinse the salmon under cold water and pat it dry with paper towels.
• Place the salmon skin-side down on a cutting board.

Step-by-Step Technique for Removing Skin

Now that you have your tools and the salmon is prepared, follow these steps to remove the skin:

1. Start at the tail end of the salmon fillet. Use your knife to make a small cut between the flesh and the skin.
2. Hold the tail with one hand to stabilize the salmon. Use the other hand to gently pull the skin while sliding the knife along the edge of the skin.
3. Continue to pull the skin while using the knife to separate it from the flesh. Keep the knife angled slightly down towards the skin to avoid wasting any flesh.
4. Once you’ve completely separated the skin from the flesh, discard the skin and check the fillet for any remaining pin bones.
