The History of Jellybeans

The origins of jellybeans can be traced back to the 19th century. The exact beginnings are somewhat unclear, but they are believed to have evolved from a candy called " Turkish Delight." This treat was made of sugar and cornstarch and was popular in the Middle East. The candy-making techniques were then adapted by European confectioners, leading to the creation of jellybeans.

In the United States, jellybeans gained popularity during the Civil War when soldiers received them as rations. The candy's long shelf life made them an ideal choice for transportation. By the 1900s, jellybeans became widely available and started appearing in stores across the country.

In 1930, the first jellybean factory was established in the United States, and the candy began to be mass-produced. During the 1940s, jellybeans became especially popular as Easter treats, solidifying their place in American culture.
