Over the centuries, Hyderabad has transformed from a small princely state capital into a sprawling urban center.

During the Nizam's rule in the 18th and 19th centuries, Hyderabad experienced steady population growth, driven by its status as a cultural and economic hub. The construction of infrastructural projects, such as the Hussain Sagar Lake and the Charminar, further cemented its importance. The city's population continued to rise, with significant increases observed during the British colonial period due to urbanization and industrialization.

Post-independence, Hyderabad emerged as a major city in independent India, attracting migrants from across the country. The formation of Andhra Pradesh in 1956, with Hyderabad as its capital, catalyzed further population growth. The city's role as a political and administrative center, coupled with economic opportunities, drew people from diverse regions and backgrounds.

In the late 20th and early 21st centuries, the IT revolution significantly impacted Hyderabad's population dynamics. The establishment of HITEC City in the 1990s positioned Hyderabad as one of India's leading IT and software services centers, attracting a skilled workforce from across the nation and beyond.
