The club's association with the term "Gunners" dates back to its founding in 1886, when it was established by workers at the Royal Arsenal munitions factory in Woolwich. This connection to the artillery industry inspired the club's original name, Dial Square, which was later changed to Royal Arsenal and eventually to Arsenal FC.

As Arsenal's reputation grew, so did the nickname "Gunners," reflecting the team's firepower on the pitch. Over time, the term "Gooner" emerged as a playful yet affectionate adaptation of "Gunners," used to describe the club's fervent supporters. The adoption of "Gooner" by Arsenal fans highlights their desire to forge a distinct identity separate from the team itself. It is a term that encapsulates not just a love for the club, but also a sense of belonging to a community that shares common values and passions. In essence, being a Gooner is about being part of something greater than oneself—a collective spirit that transcends the sport and becomes a way of life.
